Exploring Leaves

Fall is one of my favorite times of year. The cool, crisp air, a hot cup of apple cider, visiting the pumpkin patch, and the gorgeous colors of the leaves around us. Recently I had a child ask me, "Lucy, why do the leaves change colors?" In the moment, I couldn't quite formulate an answer, so I told him I would do a little research and get back to him. Down in our WBMS library I found a book that had just the answer I was looking for, so we read this book at gathering, so we could ALL learn about why the leaves change colors!

We have had a lot of work involving leaves in Children's House 1 lately.
These children are all help remove the dust from our plants with Leaf Polishing work.

These children are helping trim dead leaves, mist the leaves, and water the soil of our plants with Plant Care work.

This child is learning about the different shapes of leaves with the Leaf Cabinet (while also practicing his pincer grip by holding the tracing stick).

These children are doing an art activity called Leaf Rubbing.

These children are painting leaves with watercolor paints to make a

printwith Leaf Painting work.

And these children are exploring and learning the names of leaves with the Leaf Cards (made with real leaves!)
